{"id":3550,"date":"2019-01-30T15:31:14","date_gmt":"2019-01-30T14:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/?p=3550"},"modified":"2020-06-03T09:56:15","modified_gmt":"2020-06-03T07:56:15","slug":"go-fair-implementation-networks-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/2019\/01\/30\/go-fair-implementation-networks-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"GO FAIR Implementation Networks Meeting 2019: A short recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><b>More than 90 Implementation Network representatives gathered in the Netherlands to find out about ways to sync their FAIR endeavours. <\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The GO FAIR International Support and Coordination Office hosted the <strong>first annual meeting of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/implementation-networks\/overview\/\">GO FAIR Implementation Networks<\/a><\/strong> (INs) on January 15-16, 2019 in Leiden, The Netherlands. This meeting aimed at <strong>bringing together the communities behind the GO FAIR INs<\/strong> to get to know each other and discover possible ways to <strong>sync their FAIR endeavours<\/strong>. The participants came from all across Europe and beyond, and were members of 22 GO FAIR INs in different stages of development and ranging from\u00a0science to the humanities to industry.<\/p>\n<h3>Day 1<\/h3>\n<h3><b>Introduction to GO FAIR<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The meeting started off with a <strong>presentation by the staff of the GFISCO<\/strong> in which they delivered a general overview of the GO FAIR initiative including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>relation of GO FAIR, GFISCO and EOSC<\/li>\n<li>relation to other initiatives<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/fair-principles\/\">FAIR principles<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/fields-of-action\/\">GO FAIR pillar structure<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/implementation-networks\/\">Implementation Networks<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/countries\/guidelines-involvement-go-fair-initiative-country-level\/\">Country involvement<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>See below for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/GO-FAIR-INs-Meeting_Introduction_-15Jan2019_final.pdf\"><strong>presentation slides<\/strong><\/a> <i>(link to pdf file)<\/i>:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/GO-FAIR-INs-Meeting_Introduction_-15Jan2019_final.pdf\" class=\"pdfemb-viewer\" style=\"\" data-width=\"max\" data-height=\"max\" data-toolbar=\"bottom\" data-toolbar-fixed=\"off\">GO FAIR INs Meeting_Introduction_ 15Jan2019_final<\/a>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was then followed by short <strong>presentations by selected community representatives<\/strong> to demonstrate their involvement in GO FAIR. Natasha Simons presented the the American Geophysical Union\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.copdess.org\/enabling-fair-data-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Enabling FAIR Data project<\/strong><\/a>, Inga Tharun and Oya Deniz Beyan the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dtls.nl\/fair-data\/personal-health-train\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Personal Health Train<\/a><\/strong> IN and Simon Coles the <strong>Chemistry IN<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Flash presentations by IN representatives<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The introductory session was followed by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/FlashPresentations_INs_15Jan2019.pdf\">flash presentations<\/a> <\/strong><i>(link to pdf file)<\/i><strong> by the IN representatives<\/strong> in which they provided a <strong>high level overview of the topics and main objectives<\/strong> of the respective INs:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/FlashPresentations_INs_15Jan2019.pdf\" class=\"pdfemb-viewer\" style=\"\" data-width=\"max\" data-height=\"max\" data-toolbar=\"bottom\" data-toolbar-fixed=\"off\">FlashPresentations_INs_15Jan2019<\/a>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><b>Now hands-on!<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The focus of the afternoon working session on\u00a0Day 1 was to <strong>seek synergies, overlaps and patterns amongst the different INs<\/strong>.\u00a0Aiming to accelerate convergence on\u00a0resources and best practices used by the GO FAIR community, the staff of the GFISCO, in collaboration with the Center for Digital Scholarship at the Leiden University Library, have developed an interactive matrix of IN Profiles. This matrix approach makes explicit the implementation choices and challenges faced by community striving to go FAIR. The IN representatives were asked to provide input and discuss in smaller groups, as needed and as practical. After a lively discussion the\u00a0groups reconvened, shared their results. It was concluded that the matrix results would become a FAIR and open resource, shared to with the larger community. Participants then signed up for one of four break-out sessions to attend the next day.<\/p>\n<h3>Day 2<\/h3>\n<h3><b>Active Implementation Networks recognition ceremony<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The second day of the meeting began with a\u00a0<strong>ceremony recognizing the active INs<\/strong>\u00a0with signed manifestos, namely\u00a0<strong>BiodiFAIRse, C2Camp, Chemistry, CO-OPERAS, EcoSoc, GeRDI, NOMAD, OPEDAS, and Rare Diseases<\/strong>. Special recognition went to George\u00a0Strawn who played a major role in the development of the internet and who brings a lot of inspiration to the GFISCO staff and IN Community.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"pt-swipebox\" href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/2019\/01\/30\/go-fair-implementations-meeting\/img_6638-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3578\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3578\" src=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_6638-2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_6638-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_6638-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_6638-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_6638-2-720x480.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_6638-2-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><b>Let\u2019s get to work!<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Following the ceremony participants split into\u00a0breakout sessions\u00a0of their choosing: Implementation Choices and Challenges, IN profiling, The Role of Industry, GO TRAIN Pillar.\u00a0The groups reconvened after the session and shared key outcomes and follow-up plans with the rest of the\u00a0audience.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Organizing for maximum impact <\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Before concluding the first IN meeting the staff of <strong>GFISCO presented the GO FAIR governance<\/strong> and <strong>representatives from the USA and Brazil<\/strong> explained their <strong>country\u2019s involvement in GO FAIR<\/strong>.
