During this workshop, a consortium of international stakeholders (including two European research funding agencies) conceived the FAIR Funder Implementation Study to demonstrate how existing technologies can be combined to allow Funders to realistically mandate, and grantees to realistically produce FAIR research outputs. By February 2019 the consortium had articulated a bottom-up, multi-stakeholder workflow that combines existing tools enabling a complete turn of the FAIR Funding cycle. Results from this collective investigation were reported (<a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/1902.11162v2.pdf\"><b>https:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/1902.11162v2.pdf<\/b><\/a>) and steps towards implementation are ongoing.<strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5302 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/FAIR-Funder-Cycle_Small.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"337\" height=\"337\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <strong>FAIR Funder Cycle and the Internet of FAIR Data and Services<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The FAIR Funder Cycle is not a goal in itself. The purpose of this emerging ecosystem of FAIR Service Providers is to streamline the creation of FAIR data which will then participate in the Internet of FAIR Data and Services (IFDS). An example of the IFDS in action is the Data Train that brings algorithms to secured FAIR Data Stations, permitting automated analytics across large numbers of distributed and heterogeneous\u00a0resources. Shown here, Personal Health Trains and Farm Data Trains visit FAIR Data Stations containing information created in the FAIR Funder cycle.<\/p>\n<p><b>Progress of the FAIR Funder Implementation Study<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>October 15 &#8211; 16, 2018 a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/events\/m4m-workshop\/\">two-day workshop \u201cMetadata for Machines\u201d (M4M) workshop<\/a> was organised by the Research Data Alliance and the GO FAIR International Support and Coordination Office.\u00a0<b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>January 14, 2019 a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/events\/m4m-2-preclinical-trials-m4m-3-funders\/\">Preclinical Trials M4M Workshop and a Funders M4M workshop<\/a> was organized to create machine-actionable metadata for the Preclinical Trials Research Community and for Scientific Funders. Participants included members from the Preclinical Trails and Funders communities and metadata experts from the Centre for Extended Data and Annotation and Retrieval.\u00a0<b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>September 30 &#8211; October 1, 2019 the GO FAIR office in Leiden organised a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/events\/fair-funders-meeting\/\">meeting introducing a FAIR Funder Implementation Study<\/a>.
